Oman’s weather is at its pleasantest between October and April, when temperatures are warm but not as exceedingly hot as in the summer. November in particular is a most popular month amongst visitors, with a comfortable climate well suited for sightseeing and enjoying the coast.

Rain is typically only expected in January and February, and even then it often comes in the form of fleeting showers. Temperatures are still nice and cool during these months, making it a wonderful time to explore the country. Christmas and the New Year is a busy period for Oman, so you would need to book your trip well in advance.

In the spring temperatures rise to around 30°C and you can expect some beautiful scenery, including the roses that bloom in the Jebel Akhdar Mountains. May is often considered the transitional period between the cooler temperatures of spring and the scorching heat of summer. It’s also the start of the summer fruit season so fresh produce is in abundance.

We would advise against travel in the summer (between June and August) when the temperatures are very high – up to 40°C. Temperatures dip a little in September, and you can still view turtles at Ras al Jinz. Salalah, on the southern coast, has a different climate entirely. It experiences a monsoon season known as the “khareef” from June to September, during which wet winds create a thick fog which in turn results in beautiful and lush greenery. It is a fantastic time for bird watchers with a number of migratory species in the area over summer.
