San Camp, Makgadikgadi Pans

Experience something totally unique at San Camp, an intimate tented property surrounded by the striking landscape of Botswana’s Makgadikgadi Pans.

San Camp catches the eye with its billowing white tents on the edge of the huge Nwetwe Pan deep in the Kalahari. Not overly luxurious or flamboyantly decorated, the beauty of San Camp lies in its simplicity and the incredible surrounding landscape. Inside the canvas walls you’ll find en suite bathrooms, four-poster beds wrapped in crisp cotton, Persian rugs, leather armchairs and Mahogany writing desks. Not forgetting outdoor day beds perfectly positioned for gazing across the shimmering white salt pans. The main area is made up of breezy, open-sided pavilions where you can eat delicious three-course meals, examine old maps and practice yoga.

Far from the bustle of the tourist trail, this seemingly barren environment is roamed by zebra, ostrich, red hartebeest, springbok and gemsbok. Day and night game drives will also show you lions, elephants and if you’re lucky, the rare brown hyena, whilst birdwatchers can keep an eye out for chestnut-backed finch larks and capped wheatears. As well as quad-biking, horseback safaris and walks with San Bushmen, you can enjoy up-close encounters with cheeky habituated meerkats.
