Ol Donyo Lodge, Chyulu Hills

Feel free. Free from tourist buses, free from schedules. As free to roam as the elephants whose migration path runs through the camp.

At Ol Donyo Lodge – set in 275,000 acres of scenic Africa - you’re free to choose whether you track your game from the back of a 4WD game vehicle, or the back of a horse. You can set off on foot, following in the footsteps of the big five. Or, in the right season, you can stay put and let migrating elephant families come to you. The lodge has an open ‘log-jam’ hide set on the edge of the very watering hole where massive tuskers, wart hogs and giraffe come to drink.

A little further into the bush you can also be sure of photographing free-roaming cheetah, fringe-eared oryx, giraffe and gerenuk.

  • What was particularly impressive was the way in which Catherine listened to what we like to do and combined all of this in a destination we would not have considered - a truly terrific effort.
