Best Time to Visit The Republic of the Congo

The Republic of the Congo experiences four seasons, two wet and two dry. The short dry season (January to February), the short rainy season (March to April), the long dry season (May to September) and the long rainy season (October to December). There are some variations between the north and south of the country, but due to the equatorial location, temperature and humidity levels are pretty consistent year-round, averaging 24°C in the daytime.

Generally, the long dry season is considered the best time to travel to the Congo as there is less rain and the temperatures are slightly cooler than in other months, making for more comfortable exploring. The dry season also provides the optimal conditions for gorilla trekking excursions within the wilds of Odzala National Park.

That being said, gorillas are present in the park year-round, so if you’re not put off by wetter conditions – and have the right trekking gear – travelling during the rainy season is still possible. It’s also a good chance of having the rainforest and mountains pretty much all to yourself.
