If you love elephants and want to fill your camera’s memory with brilliant wildlife shots then you should take a safari in the Tarangire National Park.

After the Serengeti, Tarangire is Tanzania’s most wildlife-rich region; a place where elephants mix with other members of the Big Five as well as huge herds of wildebeest and antelope – and the predators that stalk them. And then comes an added highlight. You’ll fly over to Rubondo Island in Lake Victoria, to experience Africa’s largest island nature reserve – a place where elephants roam free and undisturbed, and families of wild chimpanzees run riot in the canopy of a pristine forest.

Take a flight from London to Dar es Salaam and then onwards to Kilimanjaro and Tarangire National Park. It is here that your safari experience really begins; you’ll be staying in a small, remote camp and sleeping in spacious tents furnished in authentic safari style.

You’ll be able to hear the call of the wild through the canvas walls at night and, during the day, you’ll discover the wildlife of one of the most game-rich areas of Africa.

Walking safaris with expert guides will introduce you to the smaller game and may bring encounters with the larger animals, whilst game drives in a 4×4 will give you plenty of opportunity to photograph lions, elephants, wildebeest and antelope, to name but a few. You could even take to the air in a small plane to gain a new perspective on Tarangire’s huge herds.

Stay: Five nights at Oliver’s Camp, Tarangire.

This is Africa’s largest and most impressive island national park; a pristine wilderness paradise virtually untouched by the influence of man, making it an ideal environment for watching great herds of elephant in their natural habitat.

It’s also a great place to see large troupes of chimpanzees swinging their way through the treetops of a dense natural forest – and fish for huge Nile perch in crystal clear waters.

Stay: Three nights at Rubondo Island Camp.
