The safari begins at Katavi, one of Africa’s most remote and least visited national parks in the far reaches of western Tanzania. Katavi’s Katuma River and floodplains are seasonally a sanctuary to a huge variety of wildlife, from hippo and crocodile to herds of antelope, buffalo giraffe, zebra and elephant rarely seen in such quantity elsewhere in Tanzania.
You continue to the eastern shores of Lake Tanganyika, in the shadow of the Mahale Mountains, where the days are split between tracking chimpanzee through lush tropical forest, and fishing or snorkeling in the clear inviting waters of the lake, or simply soaking up the sun on a private beach.
