handful of totally exclusive tented camps in Kenya

At the heart of Maasai land, this intimate safari camp nestles in the shade of giant fig trees on the banks of the Ewaso Ngiro River. Raised on wooden decks with large verandas for admiring the landscape, the six tents are all extremely private and well-spaced out. Communal areas include a shady bar and inviting riverside lounge, a swimming pool and an airy dining room, with delicious meals prepared fresh in the on-site kitchen.

Days on the Shompole Conservancy, an area of abundant wildlife bordering the shores of Lake Magadi and Lake Natron, are at your disposal. Walks and game drives with local Masai guides offer up-close sightings of zebra, wildebeest, lion, giraffe and elephant, as well as over 450 species of birds. The congregation of flamingos at the lakes are a magnificent spectacle – see them from your vehicle or from above on an exciting helicopter flight.

With no crocodiles or hippos to worry about, the Ewaso Ngiro River is safe for kayaking and tubing down – keep an eye out for rare colobus monkeys swinging overhead! At the nearby Lale’enok Resource Centre, you’ll also have the rare opportunity to walk alongside a troop of habituated baboons. Meanwhile, cultural visits in the area are a wonderful way to learn more about the largely unchanged life of the Masai.
