Suggested flight (not included in the cost of the tour) British Airways BA 582 departing London Heathrow at 13.20 hrs arriving Venice at 16.40 hrs. Transfer to the 4*Splendid, located in a peaceful canal in the heart of the city, a bridge away from the famous Rialto Bridge, where three nights are spent.
Welcome drinks and dinner at the hotel.
Depart on foot for the Rialto. Visit the Rialto Market to see the traditional vegetable and fish market and the Rialto Bridge, the oldest and only bridge across the Grand Canal for centuries. Continue to the Church of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari for an overview of the Venetian painting of Paolo Veneziano, Giovanni Bellini and Titian. Continue to San Tomà to visit the Scuola di San Rocco – to see Tintoretto’s masterpieces.
Lunch at a local restaurant. Continue to Ca’ d’Oro, one of the best examples of Venetian Gothic architecture. Return to the hotel. Dinner under own arrangements.
Depart on foot to see the 15th century church of San Zaccaria, which was dedicated to the father of John the Baptist. Continue to the Scuola San Giorgio degli Schiavoni, which holds some of Carpaccio’s finest painting ever commissioned. See the interior with its Gothic elements blended with the new Renaissance forms.
Lunch under own arrangements. Afternoon at leisure. Early evening, meet in the hotel lobby and depart by private boat. Dinner at Club Doge at Gritti Palace. Continue for a spectacular private evening visit to the Basilico San Marco, Venice’s most famous church, to see the illuminated mosaics. Walk back to the hotel.
Check-out of the hotel. (luggage will be stored until departure). Depart by water taxi across the lagoon to the island of Torcello. Visit the 7th century Duomo, a notable example of Venetian-Byzantine architecture containing the earliest mosaics in Venice.
