Elounda Mare Hotel, Crete

The blue of the sky is a clear sapphire over your head, you notice as you laze in your recliner on the whiteness of Elounda Mare’s beach. But imperceptibly fading to the palest tint of forget-me-knot towards the horizon. In the distance, the mountains are ranging from dusty cyan to purple whilst the sea is the purest azure. Behind you is an inviting swimming pool the colour of lapis lazuli.

Like the island of Crete itself, the Elounda Mare Hotel is quite a colourful place to stay. It has carefully tended flower gardens leading to a beautiful beach. Its décor is reminiscent of a traditional Cretan mansion, built in the local manner with great stonework, adorned inside with antique furniture and fascinating artworks.
