Join Chris and Carolyn Caldicott on this curated road trip along the backroads of Rajasthan to fantasy forts, desert camps, havelis and design hotels.
The journey begins delving into in the hidden secret charms of the dynamic maximum city, Mumbai. Staying at the grand dame classic, the Taj Mahal Palace, we will explore the melting pot of cultures and cuisines from 5th century Buddhist caves to colonial gems and contemporary cool. From Raas Devigarh near Udaipur we will enter the desert home of the nomadic Rabari herders and spend a night at Jawai Leopard Camp for a game drive in an untamed wilderness where leopards roam wild and free. From Lakshman Sagar we will walk to remote rural village bazaars and farms of Pali precinct then move on to Raas a beautifully restored haveli deep in the old blue city of Jodhpur where we will visit the mighty Mehrangarh Fort and dine on authentic Rajput cuisine in a candle lit step well. We move on to Ranvas (formerly the ‘abode’ of the queens), a boutique hotel set in the Palace complex within the ramparts of the immaculately restored atmospheric Ahhichatracharh Fort of Nagaur. The tour ends in the rarely visited ancient desert trading post of Bikaner.
