Iran is generally at its best during the months of spring (Mar-May) and autumn (Sep-Oct). During these periods, the conditions and temperatures, averaging a comfortable 20°C-25°C, are both ideal for exploring the country’s archaeological treasures and ancient cities. As this is the most popular time to travel, booking early is advised to ensure your choice of accommodation.

Subsequently, Iran’s hot, dry summers (temperatures can reach 40°C) are best avoided, as is the winter period when the temperatures can become bitterly cold and snow blocks off the mountain roads.

The Iranian New Year, Nowruz, is an ancient celebration and runs for two weeks at the end of March and beginning of April. The event can cause packed hotels and the closing down of many attractions, so unless you wish to take part in the celebrations, we would recommend avoiding travel at this time.

During the month of Ramadan, which falls at a slightly different time each year, eating and drinking in public are not allowed between sunrise and sunset.
