Titles like ‘The Great Ice Bear’ and ‘The Lord of the Arctic’ give you a clue, but they don’t really encapsulate the sensation you’ll experience when you meet your first polar bear, in the wild.

There is something mesmerising about the planet’s largest living land predator, something beautiful and, at one and the same time, something terrifyingly awesome.

But coming face-to-face with giant white bears on the outskirts of Churchill isn’t the only unforgettable experience offered by the Polar Bear Capital of the World.

You can also zip across the frozen wastes of the Tundra on a buggy or try mushing on a dog sled.

  • It was a complicated and very individual trip, and several changes were made by me during the planning. None of this seemed to worry Ayesha and everything went according to plan.
