My specialist countries
Working in the groups department we cover all areas throughout the world however the most recent country to add to my portfolio is Russia.
A bit about me
Having traveled Europe and further a field growing up, my love for travel began at an early age. Experiencing new cultures, different ways of life and most importantly food is something which I find exciting and compelling, and working at The Ultimate Travel Company allows me to travel to places and experience things I wouldn’t necessarily be able to do otherwise. Along with a growing knowledge about different destinations, I have also learnt a large amount about art, history and culture too.
My favourite place
Deciding a favorite place or destination would be impossible – however a recent destination I’ve visited which stands out to me would be St. Petersburg. I was lucky enough to visit this fascinating city in early February when the weather was cold and you had the museums practically to yourself. Staying at the fantastically located and luxurious The Astoria Hotel just walking distance from The Hermitage I was lucky enough to get an insight into the history of St. Petersburg from the Curator of The Hermitage, enjoy a Troika ride in the snow and sample some traditional Russian food (including vodka!)
My favourite hotel
Vamizi Island Lodge on Vamizi Island in Mozambique is situated on the Quirimbas Archipelago. This is the nearest I’ve been to paradise, miles of uninterrupted white sands which you feel you have all to yourself. First and foremost a conservation project, this eco-tourism lodge offers not only the most fantastically fresh food but some of the best diving and deep-sea fishing I’ve ever experienced.
My most memorable experience
Visiting Daphne Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage at the Ithumba Orphan’s Unit in Kenya’s massive Tsavo National Park and seeing the fantastic job they are doing with the preservation and protection of these wonderful animals. The relationship formed between with the young orphaned herd and their keepers is truly magical.
My top tips
- Go for a wine tasting at Vila Viniteca in Barcelona and sample traditional Spanish wines accompanied by Iberiac ham and cheeses before buying fantastically fresh local produce in the shop next door.
- Rent a bike on the Île de Ré (a small fishing island located off the west of France) and explore the coastline by bike, stopping along the way for a lunch of freshly caught fish in the sleepy fishing port of La Flotte.
- Watch the sun set, the night fall and the lights of Manhattan in New York come alive whilst aboard a sunset sailboat along the Hudson. This unbeatable way of seeing the Statue of Liberty and the Big Apple is something not to be missed.
