This fascinating journey starts in the vibrant city of Salvador, a cultural highlight as one of Brazil's oldest cities where the music and dance of the region with its colonial African background are infectious.
You then head north to Fortaleza before relaxing on the pristine beaches of Jericoacoara where you can also enjoy more unusual activities from kitesurfing to sandboarding. The next four days are an adventure by 4x4 and speedboat along one of Brazil's wildest sections of coastline with its dramatic scenery created by plunging cliffs, sweeping sand dunes and wild beaches. You arrive finally in the World Heritage city of São Luis, home to the largest collection of Portuguese architecture in the Americas.
Fly to Salvador via San Paolo and check in to your charming hotel in the historical centre. Salvador, the former capital, is one of Brazil’s oldest cities and is home to some of the best preserved colonial architecture across South America. It retains its African soul, imported when slaves were brought over to work in the sugarcane and cocoa plantations.
Days are at leisure but we can arrange a number of optional excursions for you, including a tropical schooner ride, a percussion workshop, or a trip to the local markets to sample typical Bahian cuisine.
