The Siam Hotel, Bangkok

If you’re seeking a more intimate base for your Bangkok adventures, this family-owned boutique hotel promises a serene yet impeccably stylish stay on the banks of the Chao Praya River.

Encompassing three acres of lush riverside frontage, The Siam feels like an urban oasis hidden amongst the bustle of Bangkok and its many international high-rises. The hotel’s regular shuttle boat service connects guests to the city centre, though there’s plenty to enjoy in-house with its riverfront infinity pool, heavenly spa and yoga classes. It even has its own Muay Thai boxing ring where guests are invited to sign up for lessons, as well as a velvet-seated screening room. With four stylish restaurants and bars, diners are treated to everything from local specialties to international fare.

The Siam’s sophisticated design, which marries Art Deco glamour with classic Thai influences, is the work of acclaimed architect Bill Bensley. The lofty, generously sized suites and villas are elegantly adorned with turn-of-the-century artwork and precious antiques, and come catered for by a friendly personal butler. The Riverview Suites unsurprisingly have the best views over the Chao Phraya, but for the ultimate indulgence book yourself into one of the picture-perfect Pool Villas.

  • What was particularly impressive was the way in which Catherine listened to what we like to do and combined all of this in a destination we would not have considered - a truly terrific effort.
