Wild Coast Tented Lodge, Yala National Park

Spectacularly poised between jungle and ocean, this stylish safari lodge lies on the very cusp of the leopard-filled Yala National Park.

Scattered along the beach in the shape of a leopard’s paw - a nod to the area’s most famous resident – guests stay in a series of cocoon-shaped tents. Made from canvas and other natural materials, they blend easily into the surrounding rocks and boulders. Interiors are a showcase of colonial expedition chic, complete with freestanding copper tubs, teak floors and dark leather furnishings. Select tents enjoy the addition of private plunge pools, while others are dotted around watering holes that draw a variety of birds and wildlife.

Two huge bamboo-lined pavilions house the bar and dining room, which in turn frame the beautiful freeform swimming pool. The menu here changes daily, but you can always expect authentic Sri Lankan dishes. The lodge’s proximity to Yala National Park means thrilling encounters with wild leopards, elephants and bears are never far away. Guided bush walks and game drives with naturalist guides offer a fantastic immersive experience. Between safaris, enjoy getting pampered in the Sanctuary Spa where treatments range from ‘Island Spice Scrubs’ to classic Swedish massages.
