Little-visited by tourists, the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in western India is a true hidden gem. This is one of the finest places in the country to get up close to Bengal tigers and other rare wildlife.

The reserve gets one half of its name from the god ‘Tadoba’ (or ‘Taru’) – who, according to legend, died here while fighting a tiger – and the other half from the Andhari River that weaves its way through the rich forest. Svasara Jungle Lodge, perched on the very edge of this unspoiled wilderness, just 300 metres from the park’s Kolara gate, is the ideal base for exploration.

Just 12 comfortably furnished and spacious suites make up the accommodation. Though surrounded by acres of natural and untamed forest, each suite is fitted with modern comforts and luxurious amenities. A swimming pool, spa and both indoor and outdoor multi-cuisine dining complete the lodge’s facilities. Expert naturalists will take you, in custom-fitted jeeps, to explore the reserve where you have a good chance of spotting tigers, wild dogs, sloth bears, gaur, sambar and some 200 species of birds.
