Arrive in Johannesburg and connect on to Lusaka. From Lusaka, you will catch a scheduled light aircraft flight to Mfuwe, followed by a road transfer (game drive) to your camp within the remote Nsefu sector of the South Luangwa.
South Luangwa National Park stands between the Luangwa River and the end of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, and is reputedly one of the least spoiled wilderness areas on the continent; a wildlife sanctuary stretching over 9000 sq km. A typical safari here will present you with mobs of hippos, large numbers of wild elephants, herds of buffalo and families of zebras – naturally stalked by an array of predators. During your game drives and bush walks Tena Tena’s expert guides will take you to the region’s top bird watching spots and point out lion prides half-hidden in the shadows beneath spreading trees. They’ll also offer invaluable insights into the park’s smaller creatures and indigenous plants.
Stay: Four nights in a double tent at Tena Tena – full board
Today you will cross the border with a flight from Mfuwe to Club Mac. On arrival, you will be met by a guide and transferred to Pumulani Lodge which overlooks the sparkling waters of Lake Malawi.
Explorer David Livingstone described it as the ‘The Lake of Stars’, and Lake Malawi’s scenic beauty continues to captivate travellers to this very day. From your lodge, you’ll have the perfect panoramic view of the lake’s glistening surface and surrounding beach. After dark, the clear night sky is lit with countless bright stars that reflect beautifully in the lake’s deep waters.
Whilst you can easily spend all of your time relaxing on the private beach or by the infinity pool, Pumulani has an array of activities to choose from for when you’re feeling more active. Water sports such as snorkelling, kayaking, water-skiing and diving are all available, as well as great fishing opportunities – experts believe Lake Malawi has more native fish species than any other lake on the planet. You can take to the water in a traditional wooden dhow, but perhaps you’d prefer to explore the rich forest surrounding the lodge for unique species of flora and fauna.
Stay: Four nights in a double villa at Pumulani – full board
On day ten you’ll take a road transfer to Club Mac and a scheduled flight to Lilongwe. You’ll check in for your flight to Johannesburg and, upon arrival, board a flight back to London.
