Luangwa River Camp, South Luangwa National Park

Set under a grove of ancient ebony trees on a bend of the Luangwa River, this intimate camp lies in one of the most game-rich corners of the South Luangwa.

Now part of Robin Pope Safaris’ enviable portfolio, Luangwa River Camp is a small property with a romantic riverside setting in the South Luangwa. No more than 10 guests are accommodated in five bush suites with understated safari decor, thatched roofs and ensuite bathrooms. Large sliding doors let in a refreshing breeze, as well as opening onto private decks where you can enjoy serene river views. The elevated main area features an impressive double-level plunge pool (complete with a connecting waterfall) as well as a dining room and open-plan bar with uninterrupted views into the national park.

The fabled South Luangwa is one of Africa’s greatest wildlife sanctuaries, brought to life by the pristine Luangwa River whose scenic oxbow lagoons and riverine woodlands support a huge variety of game. Elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, giraffe and hippo can all be spotted on your game drives and bushwalks, as well as hundreds of species of birds. During the Emerald Season, you’ll even be able to head out onto the lagoons to enjoy up-close game viewing by boat. Visits to the local village and school can also be arranged and offer a wonderful insight into life in the Luangwa Valley.
