Aman Sveti Stefan, Montenegro

You could stay in an ancient citadel standing in the sea. Or in a traditional Montenegrin villa just a few minutes walk away, along a beach of pink sand.

Montenegro might be comparatively unmarked on the ‘large scale tourism’ map, but it is much the better for that. It means you can enjoy its unspoiled and unashamedly beautiful coastline in peace. Sveti Stefan, for example, is a 15th century fortified town; a higgledy-piggledy collection of stone houses and ancient churches standing on its own isthmus island. Here you can stay in a choice of original, stone-built rooms, suites or cottages; and revel in the atmosphere of this unique island town. Or you could take a walk along one of the Adriatic’s finest beaches – with pink sand between your toes – and find yourself the Aman’s Villa Milo?er. This traditional Montenegrin villa features white walls, gorgeous gardens, wisteria-covered colonnades and a picturesque terrace overlooking the bay.
