Balanced on the edge of a cliff 3,000 feet above the town, the monastery is one of Bhutan’s best known landmarks. The two-hour trek it takes to reach it is well worth the effort, and you will be rewarded along the way with sensational valley views.
The Paro dzong is a fine example of Bhutanese architecture, and was used to defend against invasions in days gone by. This is Bhutan’s most illustrious dzong and is situated at the centre of the valley. Other attractions include the National Museum of Bhutan which is a must for anyone looking to get a deeper look into the rich history and cultural heritage of this nation.
Visitors can also embark on a road trip from Paro to Chele La, a stunning route that offers excellent walking detours and picture-perfect views of the sacred Mt Jomolhari.
