Old Mondoro, Lower Zambezi National Park

Made up of only five guest chalets, Old Mondoro promises an quintessential, back-to-nature safari deep in Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park.

Set under a canopy of giant winterthorn trees, Old Mondoro enjoys a charming riverside location. Named after a mythical white lion that used to frequent the area, the experience here is all about reconnecting with the natural world.

As an unfenced property, wild animals are simply a part of camp life. You can expect frequent sightings of buffalo and elephant, as well as waterbuck, baboons and pods of river-bathing hippo. When not wildlife watching from camp, you’ll have a choice of land and water-based activities to enjoy.

Comprising just five uncluttered tents, Old Mondoro ensures a truly private atmosphere for each guest. Every room is equipped with an open-to-the-skies shower and a private deck for watching the natural world go by. Wide reed windows look out onto the Zambezi or the hyacinth-filled channel weaving through camp, whilst the outdoor bath doubles as a plunge pool. Meals are served in an open-sided dining tent, or under the stars in the middle of the Zambezi.
